Summer is finally here, and most of the quality TV programs are on hiatus until the fall. So what now? Do you stay in and watch reruns, or is this the year you get up off that couch and try out something different. In the last decade there have been some major innovations in sports and technology, leading to some amazing products that are designed to both thrill and terrify the average human. This article will investigate new gadgets and toys you can try out this summer, and all you have to do is keep reading in order to find out more. We want to pique your interest so that this summer will be the one you remember for the rest of your life.
Seawalking
Yes, seawalking! No longer just the realm of crabs and lobsters, the seabed is now a place where humans can also walk. Essentially, a sea helmet is placed on your head and shoulders, completely enclosing your head from the water. You do not need to take scuba lessons, since you are walking, not swimming. Plus, there is usually a guide with you, and a person manning the airflow "“ leaving you free to enjoy the sites. You don't even need to know how to swim, since you will be on the sea floor.
Personal Water Craft
The latest rage for those who want to enhance their swimming experience is to use a battery powered personal water scooter "“ like the Sea Scooter "“ by Sea Doo. These little babies float, and are powered by a rechargeable battery. They are durable, and can pull a full grown adult around the lake for hours. They can also dive underwater, which can be great when you are trying to reenact a few James Bond scenes. Try using them to plow through and body-surf a heavy wave "“ it's a blast!
Aqua & Hydro Bikes
Paddle boats are for lame first dates and seniors, but Aqua Bikes are hot beach fun. They look like giant inflatable tricycles, and unlike paddle boats they are amphibious, so you can take them on land or water. If you want something more like your mountain bike, check out the Hydro Bike. It looks like a regular bike sitting atop two pontoons, which is essentially what it is. You can get these up to about 10 mph, so they are a good alternative to paddling. Plus, like the Aqua Bike, they come in one and two-seater versions. Once again, environmentally friendly, quiet, and a great workout.
Wake Boarding behind Personal Watercraft
Maybe you already have a personal watercraft and are getting bored chasing after boats so you can do some wake jumping. Or maybe you are a water-skier who wants to try something different. Most jet skis and personal watercraft can be equipped with a tow bar kit, so that you can drag some poor hapless victim behind you. The main difference between a ski boat and personal watercraft is in the quick speed and agility. If you get a good skier up on a wakeboard behind a personal watercraft you can whip them around like a rag doll. And why wouldn't that be fun?
Electric Scooters
Are you still using your legs like a sucker? If the answer is yes, you have to test ride an electric scooter. They look like a regular 2-wheeled scooter, but come equipped with a small battery powered engine. They can collapse to fit in an extremely small space (e.g. your trunk), and easily expand for fast scooting action. Yes, they only go around 10km/hour (6 mph), but it still is a fun ride. And if the battery dies while you are riding, you can easily use your legs to get back home. There are newer models coming out that are equipped with seats, and can reach speeds of 30km/hour! (19 mph) Environmentally friendly, quiet, and a fun ride.
Water Hammock
The ultimate for the lazy man at the beach, and an instant conversation starter. Can you say "babes"? Nothing on earth is more comfortable than a Water Hammock! Rather than get a boring air mattress "“ no matter how funky it might be "“ get a Water Hammock. It's new, cool and fun. What woman wouldn't want to try it out? In fact, larger models can easily hold three, so be prepared to have a wet and wild time.
Personal Submarine
SportSub has been around for a few years, and they offer one-man submarines for the average Joe. There other manufacturers who offer wet and dry versions, but if you want to avoid getting wet, dry is the way to go. Want something a little larger? Check out US Subs. They have a line of personal luxury subs that are easy to use, and loaded with features. Who wouldn't want to be invited to an underwater shaker? Forget the mile-high club, bring in the mile-below club!
Have fun in the sun!
If you are bored of the usual summer beach toys, then make sure you try out at least some of the items we mentioned here. Maybe you can't afford a new personal submarine, but you can rent one at select marinas or just try like hell to become friends with someone who has one!
